The Investigation section (sidebar > Investigation) provides two analytical tools for exploring your data beyond individual timelines and events:

1. Timeline Comparison — Side-by-side view of multiple timelines
2. Timeline Comparison Map — Geographic view of event locations across timelines

Timeline Comparison

Side-by-side comparison of up to three timelines. Built for discrepancy detection — the same event reported differently across timelines surfaces immediately.

Opening the Tool

1. Click Investigation in the sidebar, or press G then I.
2. The Timeline Comparison tab opens by default. Press 1 to switch to it from other investigation tabs.

Adding Timelines

1. Use the timeline selector to add timelines to the view. You can add up to three.
2. Each timeline appears as a scrollable column.
3. Events are listed chronologically within each column.

Comparing Events

• Each column shows events from that timeline with status badges and timestamps.
• Scroll independently within each column.
• The same event appearing in multiple timelines is visually aligned.
• Status differences for the same event across timelines are immediately visible — a confirmed event in one timeline may be disputed in another.

Keyboard Navigation

What you'll see: If no timelines are added, the comparison area shows an empty state prompting you to add timelines. Each column header shows the timeline title and status badge.

Timeline Comparison Map

A geographic visualization of event locations across your timelines.

Opening the Tool

1. Click the Timeline Comparison Map tab in the Investigation page.
2. Press 2 to switch to it from other investigation tabs.

Adding Data

1. Use the timeline selector to add timelines to the map.
2. Events with location data appear as numbered markers.
3. The number on each marker corresponds to an event in the overlay.
4. Markers are clustered at higher zoom levels — zooming in separates clusters into individual markers.

Interacting with the Map

Click any marker to see the event title and navigate to its detail page.

What you'll see: If no timelines are selected, the map shows a default world view. Adding timelines with geolocated events populates the map. Events without location data are not shown on the map.
