Acceptable Use Policy

If you believe your copyrighted work has been improperly uploaded, please refer to our Copyright & DMCA Policy.

5. User-Generated Content

You are responsible for all content you submit.

This includes:

  • Comments
  • Investigation notes
  • Images
  • Documents
  • URLs
  • Timelines
  • Evidence
  • Attachments

Do not upload content that:

  • Is knowingly false or fraudulent.
  • Contains malicious software.
  • Violates another person's legal rights.
  • Infringes intellectual property rights.
  • Violates applicable laws.

Canonical Timeline may remove content that violates this policy.

6. Research Integrity

Canonical Timeline exists to support thoughtful investigation and research.

Users should strive to:

  • Accurately represent sources.
  • Preserve quotations faithfully.
  • Clearly distinguish fact from opinion.
  • Cite sources whenever practical.
  • Avoid intentionally misleading edits or omissions.

Reasonable disagreements and competing interpretations are expected. Deliberate falsification is not.

7. Spam and Abuse

You may not:

  • Send spam.
  • Post repetitive or automated content.
  • Create fake accounts.
  • Artificially manipulate rankings or visibility.
  • Use the Service primarily for advertising.
  • Conduct phishing or fraud.

8. Platform Security

You may not attempt to:

  • Access systems without authorization.
  • Interfere with another user's account.
  • Bypass security measures.
  • Probe or scan for vulnerabilities without authorization.
  • Introduce malware, ransomware, viruses, or harmful code.
  • Disrupt the normal operation of the Service.

9. Automated Access

You may not use bots, scripts, crawlers, or automated tools to:

  • Disrupt the Service.
  • Overload infrastructure.
  • Circumvent rate limits.
  • Harvest user information without authorization.

Reasonable automated access that complies with future published API documentation or written permission from Canonical Timeline is permitted.

10. Artificial Intelligence

You may not use the Service to intentionally generate or distribute deceptive, fraudulent, or unlawful AI-generated content.

Canonical Timeline's internal use of AI for software development does not affect users' ownership of their content.

11. Enforcement

Canonical Timeline may investigate potential violations of this policy.

If we determine that this policy has been violated, we may take one or more of the following actions:

  • Remove content.
  • Restrict features.
  • Suspend an account.
  • Permanently terminate an account.
  • Report unlawful activity to appropriate authorities where required or appropriate.

Our response will generally depend on the nature and severity of the violation.

12. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Acceptable Use Policy from time to time.

Material changes will be reflected by updating the Effective Date shown above.

Continued use of the Service after changes become effective constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
